Foods You Must Avoid If You Have Anaemia

With the identification of several types of anemia, one of the most common types, iron deficiency anemia, has become more prominent and common over time.

Your body needs a certain number of red blood cells to carry out proper oxygen circulation. Anemia is a medical condition in which your body stops making red blood cells due to insufficient iron. As a result, the entire system collapsed and was affected, resulting in poor oxygen circulation.

If you have anemia, you must make some dietary decisions. In other words, you must check your food intake so that your body gets enough iron to combat this situation.

People with anemia should avoid the foods listed below at all costs to prevent their condition from getting worse.

Foods rich in gluten

People with anemia should avoid gluten-containing foods because they can aggravate the condition. In some cases, gluten can damage the intestinal wall and prevent the absorption of iron and folic acid, both of which are important for the formation of red blood cells. Wheat products, cereals, cereals, biscuits, candies, cakes, pies, pasta and rye all contain gluten.

Foods high in tannins

Coffee, tea, wine, grapes, mint, rosemary, cranberries, strawberries, apples, basil, blueberries, apricots, barley, peaches, dried fruits, corn and mint all contain high tannins.

Although tea and coffee will not cause any serious harm to a person's overall health, people with anemia should avoid them because they limit the absorption of iron.

Avoid calcium

Calcium, like tannin and gluten, can disrupt the absorption of iron in the body and aggravate the condition of patients with anemia. Therefore, in addition to bananas, papaya, oranges and almonds, patients with anemia should avoid dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese because they are rich in calcium.

Oxalic acid food

It is not recommended for patients with blood deficiency to consume foods high in oxalic acid, such as cocoa powder, sweet potatoes, chocolate, avocados, peanuts, spinach and parsley, because they can aggravate symptoms. If you cannot avoid these foods completely, try to limit your intake as they interfere with iron absorption.

Foods rich in phytate

Foods rich in phytic acid combine with iron in the digestive tract to prevent the absorption process of iron. Therefore, phytate is strictly prohibited for patients with anemia. Foods rich in phytic acid include brown rice, nuts, whole grains and legumes.

Limit alcohol

Excessive drinking is considered fatal because it may cause other health problems. Patients with anemia should especially limit alcohol consumption, because alcohol not only affects the absorption of nutrients by food, but also leads to lack of iron and folic acid in the body.

Avoid polyphenols

Polyphenols are rich in antioxidants and come from various plant foods. However, they are not recommended for people with anemia because they slow down the absorption of iron. Coffee, tea, olives, nuts, flax seeds, berries, cocoa powder, spices, walnuts and apples are rich in polyphenols or polyphonic compounds, so they should be restricted to the diet of anemia patients.
